Latin American journalists interested in conducting research on sustainable development topics have until August 8 to submit a proposal for grant support from the AVINA Foundation. Journalists can apply for a grant in five categories: television, radio, Internet, newspapers and magazines. Grants range from US$2500 to US$7000, depending on the project, to research and complete a report. A total of US$245,000 will be awarded. According to the foundation, the proposals may be based on such themes as: equality and social inclusion; conservation and natural resource management; and sustainable economic development. A coalition of journalism organizations, including the Inter-American Press Association, la Fundación Nuevo Periodismo Iberoamericano, el Foro de Periodismo Argentino, and la Asociación Brasilera de Periodismo Investigativo, among others, are organizing the grants.
