Fact

The most common phobia that Americans have is glossophobia (that is the fear of public speaking, not the fear of lip gloss). Seventy-five percent of all Americans report having a fear of public speaking , beating out fear of spiders , fear of the dark , and even fear of death . We highly doubt that people , if given the choice , would choose death over public speaking , but nonetheless , talking in front of a large group of people will turn most people's legs into jelly . We hate jelly.

When you plan to give a presentation you have to keep in mind the following points:
Know your audience
Organize your speech
Write your speech
Practice correctly
Know how to handle nervousness


You are a student, & your teacher asked you to present your topic to the public & you feel shy & lack of confidence. So I thought it would useful for all of you if you read these tips before you get into this experience & if you already did, this might help you to improve your skills in talking to public



First of all know the needs of your audience and match your contents to their needs, & put what you want to say in a logical sequence. Keep in mind that your speech will captivate the audience time & attention



Try to rehearse it at home, in front of your family or with your friends. You know if I had a seminar I used to rehearse it at my class & it was so helpful for me. This will help you to know what your weak & strong points are



How you are being perceived is very important; that is, dress appropriately for the presentation. Hey girls do not wear high heels or many accessories because this will confuse the audience if you move here or there. Am I right? Look pleasant, confident, proud, but not arrogant. Remain calm. Appear relaxed, even if you feel nervous. Speak slowly I know once you are on the stage you got scared & you can hear your heart beating very clearly



Always try to speak clearly & do not make grammatical mistakes in order not to loose marks



Body language is important, like walking, moving & using your hands. Do not sit down & look at the ground while presenting. maintain your eye contact with your audience, because when you look at them, you will attract their attention by the way avoid focusing on the same group of students, try to look at the whole audience & if you are using a slide show you shouldn't look at the screen while explaining all the time, but try to show good elaboration between the board & the audience



It's advisable to use flash cards with you just in case you forget something to say like an example for instance. Just take a few seconds to know that you are moving to the second topic

Pause! Allow yourself & you audience a little time to reflect & think. Do not race through your presentation & leave your audience as well as yourself, feeling out of breath. If you did so you'll end your speech like hhhh...hhhhh...hhhh lolls


Finally, make your presentation interesting for the audience & listen to their question carefully, if you repeat the question before you answer this will be great for others who could not listen to it!
